When you're thinking of possible weekend getaways, Georgetown might not be the first place that leaps to mind. But with its charming shops and restaurants and gorgeous views of the Potomac River, it's definitely worth checking out.
The Ritz-Carlton Georgetown was already a place I associated with romance (my cousin had her wedding reception here one summer ago) and when the Tall Man and I arrived at the hotel on a cold December evening to check in, I wasn't disappointed. With a fireplace crackling in the lobby of this National Historic Landmark -- a restored turn-of-the-century brick factory -- we knew we were in for a treat.
Our room offered a separate sitting room, French doors that opened up to reveal a king-size bed with ultra-soft linens and a bathroom so large and luxurious, I could have spent all weekend in it. In fact, I did take two baths during our stay (the Tall Man was lucky that our suite actually had not one but two bathrooms!). Little touches like the Bulgari bath soaps and gels are what set this luxury boutique hotel a notch above the rest.
In addition to all this, the hotel offers the Fahrenheit Restaurant, Degrees Bar and The Boutique Spa. But my favorite part of the weekend was just getting to relax in a serene setting where I could truly get away from it all. Sometimes, just the act of eating fruit and chocolates on the couch while watching My Cousin Vinny on your suite's flat screen TV is all you really need to reconnect.
